  • Where do you live in relation to the project? Do you share a property line? Do you drive the roads that will be used by heavy construction equipment?

Collaborative Guidance for Energy Buyers

Utility companies are looking for reliable energy partners. By writing to them, we have an opportunity to help them understand our landscape so they can make better, more sustainable choices for Apache County.

  • Are you an Arizona rate-payer? If you pay a utility bill, mention that you appreciate their efforts to provide energy and want to ensure their sources align with rural community values.
  • Help them understand our local unique landscape. Share your knowledge of our high-risk fire zones and our reliance on specific aquifers. Helping them see these realities helps them avoid projects that might face unforeseen local challenges.
  • Shape a better path forward. Encourage them to work closely with our unified community to find energy solutions that respect our safety and our water. Tell them we want to help guide their investments toward projects that truly benefit everyone involved.

The Steps Forward

The permitting process has several stages. Knowing what comes next helps the community stay engaged at the right time.

  • The P&Z Vote This board listens to the community and makes a recommendation. It is an important first step, but it is not the final word.
  • The Appeal Window If a decision is made that residents feel is wrong, there is a short timeframe where a formal appeal can be filed to move the matter higher.
  • The Board of Supervisors Final Decision The Board of Supervisors makes the ultimate, binding choice. Because they are elected, they are directly accountable to the citizens of the county.
